Platelet Rich Plasma [PRP] therapy (also known as Vampire facelift) is the process of isolating platelets (naturally occurring components of your blood that play an important role in wound healing and tissue regeneration) from your blood. The platelets are then highly concentrated, through the process of centrifugation. The result is Platelet Rich Plasma [PRP].
PRP Platelet Rich Plasma encourages collagen formation and improves blood supply to the skin. Both of these are important factors in anti-aging therapies. PRP improves the texture of your skin by stimulating new tissue growth.
PRP is administered by our qualified aesthetic Doctors in our skin clinic, following strict guidelines.
The process, a favourite of the reality TV star Kim Kardashian, involves taking a small sample of your own blood. This sample is processed using a highly specialized, state- of- the- art centrifuge machine, specifically designed to extract the Platelet Rich Plasma [PRP] in a safe, clinical manner. It is then injected, or applied in combination therapies.
The procedure will take on average 30-45mins.
You must inform your clinician if you are taking medication, including blood thinning [anti-coagulant] medication, undergoing steroidal, or any long-term therapies.
Visible results may take 3-6 weeks. The results continue to improve over time, months and last approximately 1 – 2 years. Best results are attained through one to three consecutive treatments.
Results will depend upon a number of factors including your unique skin type, overall health status, age, dietary variations and more. Please note that non-smokers typically have better and longer lasting results than smokers.
Each person is unique and the response to intradermal injections will vary, though adverse reactions are rare. Your clinician may use a topical anaesthesia before injecting the Platelet Rich Plasma [PRP]. You may feel a ‘tingling’ sensation after the procedure and there may be redness, slight swelling and bruising. These symptoms will disappear. Please discuss this with your clinician.
